Microcasting Section

One of the main Krastsvetmet jewelry manufacture sections is Micro-casting. It is here exquisite rings, pendants and ear-rings from precious metals are fabricated. This section is like ‘imperium in imperio’. Here the metal is melted, patterns of decorations are developed and finished jewelry products are fabricated. To turn a melt of gold or platinum into a ring requires a long time and careful work done by tens of jewelers.

First the designer creates a master-model, i.e. the pattern of an item. Then a wax model is made. From dozens of wax models «the tree» is built and then it is invested with plaster. When heated the invested mould is de-waxed and filled with molted metal. After the metal is set the investment is removed and we can see an amazing gold «tree» made of multiple work pieces for future jewellery items.

Now it is the jewelers’ turn to tackle the job. Like sculptors, they remove the excess of the work-piece and a new ring, a pair of ear-rings, or a pendant come into existence. After that the item is polished with special mechanical brushes and, if necessary, precious stones are set. And soon the jewelry will appeal to the eye with its splendour and brilliance.
